Winston Crouse was born February 8, 1820 in Ashe County, NC and married Mary
Stephens in 1819. Winston's parents were Martin Crouse
& Susanna Waggoner.

- Sarah Ann Crouse was born 1857 and married John Godown, then J W Borst
- James Martin was born 1858 and married Ella Mendenhall & Florence Shambaugh
- Matilda Emmeline was born 1860 and married James Thomas Wasson
- Mary Alice was born 1861 and married Hugh M Lisle
- Louesa Adeline was born 1867 and married Frank Horr

Winston was the oldest son of Martin & Susannah Wagoner Crouse and one of nine
brothers who were Union soldiers. Winston also served in the Mexican War. Winston
and Mary Stephens Crouse were the parents of ten children
In 1862, Winston left Mary with eight children on a farm in IA while he went to
serve in the Civil War until 1865 in the IA 29th Infantry Company I. Their two sons Lewis
and Elijah, were married on Christmas Eve and Chritmas
respectively, in 1874.
